France numbers carry the +33 country code with a national trunk prefix of 0, dropped in E.164 format. Mobile and fixed-line ranges are distinguished by their leading digits and returned as a line_type you can filter on.

Ported numbers. France has had mobile number portability since 2003, with a simplified ten-day process in place since 2007, all overseen by ARCEP. A Standard lookup returns the operator to which the number range was originally allocated. mode=current instead resolves the operator actually serving a ported number, so a subscriber who kept their number while switching carriers is attributed correctly.

Questions about France number validation

Why does +33 6 12 34 56 78 have no leading 0?

The 0 in the national form (06 12 34 56 78) is a trunk prefix, not part of the subscriber number. In E.164 it is dropped after the +33 country code, so 06 12 34 56 78 becomes +33 6 12 34 56 78. Adding a 0 after +33 (+330…) is a common and invalid mistake.

Are 09 numbers mobiles or landlines?

Neither. The 09 range is non-geographic and widely used for internet-based fixed services; a number is not a mobile just because it isn't 01–05. Only 06 and 07 ranges are true mobiles, so treat 09 separately when deciding whether to send SMS.

Is 07 a mobile like 06?

Yes. ARCEP opened the 07 range for mobile services to relieve pressure on 06, and operators use 06 and 07 interchangeably. Validation logic that only recognises 06 as mobile will wrongly reject or misclassify perfectly valid 07 numbers.

Why doesn't a Guadeloupe or Réunion number use +33?

France's overseas départements have their own country codes — Guadeloupe +590, French Guiana +594, Martinique +596, and Réunion/Mayotte +262 — even though they are part of France. Code that expects every French number under +33 will misroute these; validate them against their own codes.
