Portugal phone number format

Portugal numbers carry the +351 country code and are written in full, with no separate national trunk prefix. Mobile and fixed-line ranges are distinguished by their leading digits and returned as a line_type you can filter on.

Portugal mobile operators & prefixes

Each mobile prefix is allocated to a specific operator. Veriphone returns that operator from the ANACOM (Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações) numbering plan, along with line type.

Each prefix belongs to one operator — but a number can be ported. The prefix tells you the operator a number was originally allocated to. Because Portugal allows number portability, a number can keep its prefix after switching networks, so the prefix alone doesn't guarantee the operator serving it today. Questions about Portugal number validation

Can I read the current operator off the 91/92/93/96 prefix?

No. Those prefixes only reveal the original allocation (91 Vodafone, 92/96 MEO, 93 NOS). Portability since 2002 means the serving operator can differ — use mode=current for the operator now serving the number.

Do I need a leading 0 or trunk prefix?

No. Portugal has no trunk prefix; the 9-digit national number is dialled as-is. In international format use +351 followed by the 9 digits, with no extra 0.

Is Lycamobile its own network?

No. Lycamobile is Portugal's largest MVNO and rides on Vodafone's network, so its numbers sit in the standard mobile 9x ranges rather than a distinct operator block.

How do I tell a mobile from a fixed line?

Mobile numbers begin with 9 (91/92/93/96); geographic fixed lines begin with 2 (21 Lisbon, 22 Porto, 239 Coimbra). Nomadic/internet-based numbers use the separate 30 range.
